What's the best college to go and study graphic design?Right now I have a couple of prospectuses like from Hull/Lincoln, St. Matins, Falmouth, Portsmouth and Ravensbourne. I'm expecting one from Salford as well. They all look fly so what else is new?Anybody got any experience from one of those schools and which one would you recommend to invest 3 years into??Oh and what is the difference between the 4 years B.A. course in the U.S. and the 3 years B.A. course in the U.K.??Guys I hope you can help me out a bit :)

I'm at staffordshire right now, cant comment on the course much yet seen as ive only been there 6 months but the labs are really good they have 1 brand new powerman lab just in before xmas, 1 imac lab, 2 other a bit older powermac labs, and 3 smaller rooms with a few powermacs in them for working as groups or whatever. Rather nice campus, not the best looking thing in the world at one side but the other side is rather nice, the top class accomodation is pretty decent and next to a nature reserve. And manchester/birmingham are both only about 30 mins tops by train. Apparently they have the oldest multimedia course in the country and win alot of awards.

My girlfriend is at LCP (London College of Printing) right now. I am really impressed with her course. Lots of concept development, which I think is more important than ever. They are just finishing a brand new capus as well. Looks like so much fun i want to go back to school!!!!
The ATTIK deal is a Masters Program I think. http://store.attik.com/ma/ I would stay away from it though, looks like a cash grab, they just teach you how to use apps.
Another school I checked out was Brighton University. Looks like the campus is real nice and the graduates have gone on to work with some impressive companies...Fabrica, Wink...good luck :)

I am currently in the second year of a BA Interactive Multimedia degree at Huddersfield University. I find some aspects of the course are good and others are bad.
Make sure you get an up-to-date course with new modules. My course is still teaching outdated stuff in certain things, luckily I know this but other students in my class don't.
For example one of my lectures didn't know about XHTML or Webstandards and was teaching us how to code only for IE !!
Becareful.

Bear in mind that Lincoln has totally changed. They developed a whole new block for this stuff, and merged the two Unis there into the single University of Lincoln.
I would venture that rental is cheaper in Lincoln than Falmouth, but that's only based on the knowledge that house prices are much lower in Lincoln.. of course, rentals may not be.
Lincoln is a really nice city, but it's an hour from the beach. That makes it easy enough to go to in the summer tho, and the public transport is not too bad.
Besides, the new gynormous cinema right next to the University makes Lincoln a great place.
BTW, I'm not at Lincoln, I just live in the county and go there often.

It really doesn't matter where you go, to be honest...
I did my BA at Westminster and my MA at St Martins, both were pretty shit. In my oppinion, you never get taught anything at Uni, so choose somewhere where you think you'll be happy... if you happy, you produce good work.
all universities are pretty much a factory now. I've done a bit of guest lecturing at Westminster and Surrey institiute, and they are no different, massive class sizes, not enough computers to go around, and I doubt it is much different anywhere else...
I was lucky that I lived in a house with four other GD's and we kind of taught each other, didn't really go into uni much, and as such we are all better designers I think.
But the best you can do I think is a BA at hyper island, and an MA at the RCA

Same thoughts as kingkezza, so long as the talents there you'll do Ok!! I probably learnt more about the practical side of design living with my mates than I did off my tutors. Just pick a good city where you think you'll be happy, and make plenty of friends!!!

HyperIsland is for sweeds only or peeps who can speak swedish

Im surprised no one has mentioned anything about your profile link matt, I hope thats not your portfolio ;) ..
anyway... have you tried the royal college of arts in london? Im not sure but I think they do graphic design and theyre very reputable. depends what subjects you had at a-levels really. but theres not just graphics design out there.. there are 819 multimedia(and multimedia with something else) courses in the UK this year. maybe somewhere they have multimedia and graphics design. you should look into it. in any case good luck. let us know when you find somwheres good.
ps. I went to teeside for an interview for BA graphics design.. they sucked.. and werent nice.
