Soon I'm buying external HD. As i want to use it in many places i was thinking of installing some often-used software on it so that i would have access to it nometer where i go... It seems though that most software wouldn't work without files found in the registy (or whatever it's called)... right?

just put the install files of all programs you need on the hd, so you can install programs you need in case..

its a good idea, you will be much safer man. I also am getting a 40GB external HD. Nice setup you will have then.
