I am close to buying a new G4, dual processor. Will I feel stupid in a couple of months when the G5 comes out? What should I do?

I bought my blue G3 two weeks before the G4s came out. I even called Apple to try to get an exchange. I was not too happy.
The last time Apple sold dual processors was in the last days of the PowerMac era. Then they started the G3s.
I'm considering getting a new Titanium but I have the same fear about G5s coming soon. I'd like to wait, but my computer is a lemon and I need something I can rely on.
I feel your pain and yes, you will feel stupid, just like I did.

If they were coming out soon they would have announced them at San Fran Macworld wouldn't they?
Check the schedule for the next big Apple Expo.

Won't you feel stupid anyway?! Ha Ha! Couldn't resist the Mac vs PC toss in.

I've been there myself. I bought one of the original imacs a week before all the coloured more powerful ones came out. Gutted. I want an ipod but just can't commit just incase a bloody new version comes out.

that would be "BUST" then, cus the g5 aint comin out anytime soon!

Wait till Q3 2003 if you can - the IBM 970 will be out in that timeframe and inside APPL's high-end machines. FP Math is being rated at 5x the current G4's.

there's always ebay my friend. there you can enjoy the computer now, and cut your losses and upgrade if something new is announced.

G5 will not come out for a will like 2004
My best recommendation is to alway by the middle the high end one is to much money for not that much diff and the low end is just not enough.
Also you don't ever want to buy the first version of a new processor because of bug that will be worked out in version 2 and 3.
I just got a dual g4 1 gigahertz and love it rock stable for only $2200 to $2400 with a dvd burner.
If you need it buy now
PS I have 12 macs that i purchased over the last 2 years all g4's and the all work great and fast

"The last time Apple sold dual processors was in the last days of the PowerMac era. Then they started the G3s. "
Well, except for when they started selling Duals in their standard G4 towers, which was something like 2 1/2 years ago now. The G5 won't be out for some time still, buy a G4 GHz processor and live the high life.

Buy one now.
When the G5 comes out - put it on eBay immediately
People storm eBay when new machines are announced to get used machines that people are upgrading from.
Macs have ridiculously high resale value
I am expecting I can get around $700 for my G4 I bought 3 years ago (with some upgrades included)
A pc from 3 years ago isn't worth $100

nope they only started selling the Dual gigs a little over a year ago. i bought a new 867MHz in Nov. of 2001 and literally a month and a half later they came out with the dual gigs.
Bastards that's how they get you everytime. It's unavoidable.

There is no "G5" in the cards, especially considering how accustomed to dropping the ball Motorola has become. IBM P970--64-bit, quarter 3-4 2003.

build your own G4 it shows how on screensavers and its alot lot chaeper but i would recommand PC

Don't get the Dual.
At the agency that I worked at previously I had a Dual and it was the worst pile MAC that I ever used. My 450 single worked better and faster.
