i am dynamically loading a txt file into a swf but instead of displaying the apostrophes it displays a bunch of squares.
check it out at www.staticproject.com under the perspective section.

are you pasting the text from word or something?
various text editors tend to use real apostrophies instead of the tick (') available on the keyboard. unfortunately, unless they're escaped, flash can't display them.

i am using notepad. the swf calls the notepad file (txt) in the arial font.
???

quite odd. any chance we can look at the raw text file?

certainly, it's at

yup, you're using true quotes without url-encoding them, it seems.
“ and ” and ’ are not the standard " and ' (even though the previous are more typographically correct).
this should help: http://i-technica.com/whitestuff…

so should i paste the txt file into the url encoder and then paste that code back into the txt file?

generally, all text loaded into flash should be url-encoded unless the variables are passed by a POST request (i'm not entirely sure, but you might need to url-encode even then).
so yes.

gotcha. i'll try it out and see how it goes
