Ok, if you know avid then going to avid express DV won't be a big deal, but if you are new to video editing and are thinking of chosing between Avid an FCP, then go FCT.
I was so excited to install Avid on my system, and now..

avid was amazing at its peak.
now home computers can cut it in the video editing field.
hence why "newer" apps like final cut pro are easier, more intuitive and powerful.
avid deals with film alot better though (well, so they say)

yeah, 3dMax sucks too cause its so difficult modelling a body, Poser instead does it in 2 clicks.

Avid sucks. Final Cut Pro is god.
- quamb0
sumatra- avid is just as easy to use as other video editing apps...

Premiere 6.5 with After effects.

and the wors thing there really isn't any alternative -- no Premiere might be easier than avid but it still is far away in comparison to FCP. My God, to think that PC actually might have weakness compared to Mac...

HELLO movie maker 2 is out from microsoft ....hehe

Avid|DS dosn't suck NOPE Avid makes to many Editing software packages.

i'm not sure wht you really mean by your last post. I'm sure avid is as powerful as FCP - my critisizm comes from the fact that all professional software now days is so briliantly designed that even a monkey with a bit of logic can figure it out -- in other words no manuals are necessary (almost).
Then i install Avid lass night, run it with so much anticipation and... shit i think i'll have to hit the books... In 21 century?
- boyintrnet0
ohhh heh yeah newer versions of DS are easier to learn from what I was told.
- boyintrnet0
what are u editing?
- pr2-7
minidv on avin xpress dv
- edgar_000
i never warmed up to avid.
and the price tag?
heh...lets just say i'm happy seeing avid struggle to compete with the likes of premiere and fcp.
anyone cares to comment on the latest version of ds?
- boyintrnet0
Avid seems not to loose any profit like they always gain profit or am i just hearing things
- pr2-6
btw, anyone knows whether i can turn of that lame interface graphics -- them make everything so much harder.

isn't premiere something like the counterpart of FCP for the pc... i dont know. what do you think? But if i had a mac i would fo for FCP, even FCE.

i dunno how "brilliantly designed" most grfx packages are these days -- I think you might just be used to the adobe / macromedia cluster of UI elements (could be wrong though)
as someone who's been comfortable on avid since 97, I'm definitely biased, though from what I've seen of FCP it's a decent program. but the trim tool... nothing compares to an avid trim tool, especially when you consider that the skills you learn on avid dv translate to media composer and symphony also
- constantine0
I use Avid Media Composer and FCP. FCP is easier to pick up nothing nothing about video. But if you're doing a long editing job for release or broadcast Avid is much better choice. You have so much more control. You can't even re-map the keyboard on FCP. And beware if you're going to online your work later FCP edit decision lists are notoriously bad and error ridden. AVid is worth the time to learn.

Learning Avid is pain in the ass. It's the only pro software (besides 3d apps) that you actually need to learn before you do anything. WTF, in todays' day and age?
