Ok since i installed outdated drivers for my scaner my WinXp is competely messed up. I discovered that it takes forever (about 15 mins) for the Profile screen to show up thenanother 15 to get to the desktop... then when i try to uninstall the shity drivers it says i don't have right privilages (even though i do). I run Virus check from Win98 (which resides as a system on other HD) and it shows nothing, yet clearly many things are messed up...

yeah man the thing is that i can only run the install CD from inside of the system. Meaning i would gave to run it from teh Win98 system (which i keept as buckup in cases like this one...).
In other words is tehre a way i can run the install without blowing my win 98?

how old is your motherboard? you should be able to boot from a CD-ROM (check your BIOS and set the boot order to CD-ROM first). then pop in XP and you can either wipe clean the drive with XP and start over (while still keeping the Win98 on the other HD), or free up room and get rid of Win 98.
and good god - don't install old drivers. if your drivers don't work with XP, it says something about the company that manufactures that product - they suck. especially if it's a Umax scanner.
XP has built-in generic support for scanners. you may not be able to do all the fancy 1-touch scans and shit, but it's better than blowing up your system with old drivers.
i suggest a Canon Lide 30. it's $99, super small and thin, and they support XP. if a company hasn't updated their drivers to work for XP yet, they are seriously not work spending money on.
