WinXP controls the HD letters. you must have recently either 1) installed a new HD or paritioned it differently than you had before, 2) installed a new CD-ROM/DVD player or 3) installed a ZIP drive or some other external device.
your drive letters are related to how they're hooked up on your IDE cable, and in what position.
but first, when you reinstall XP, if you partition up the drive, XP will automatically assign drive letters. so if you have 3 partions, they'll be C:, D: and E:, etc.
your CD-ROMs will then be named F:, G: etc depending on where they sit on your IDE cables.
