ive had finepix F601Z for nearly a year.............brilliant results. 1.5 gig of pics taken.
the manuual settings up to 1/1000 sec aperture work well with moving images. and f2.8 lense gives an nice blurred bg if needed.
on macro it the lense ballons the image a bit when taking rectangular art pieces. but nowt that cant be bent straight again in ps7
it was the top camera when i bought it without going up to a body the size of a 35mm twin lense reflex size.
i love the small size which sits unoticable on my belt.
i did get a 128mb card which stores nearly 400 normal size pics.
when i give friends copies on cds they always remark it takes a better pic than their own cams.
no complaints at all when printed A3 on epson 1290

i helped my company make a decision to purchase 4 FinePix S602z's.. and they are awesome... still need to work with them a bit more... but so far they are great... (i made the recommendation based on my own FinePix 4900).. we are using the 602s for our international journalists... and they have done some nice work with them...
i know a great website where you can get the 602 for very cheap..

I started out looking at the Nikons with their great reputation and all. But when I compared the specs the Finepix was a definate contender.

maybe someone can verify this, but from what i've heard, the coolpix 4500 is a superb camera for macro photography.

The new model to replace the S602 is due out around july called the S7000 - which means the price of the S602 will probably drop. If you can wait until then, it may be worth it.
Go to a bestbuy and play with them a little... I've used a G2 and S602 and I like the G2 better as a general camera, but the S602 is handy with it's bigger zoom.
Here's some samples of what the S602 can do...

I have a Finepix s602 zoom, can't really fault it at all, you can get lenses for it too and it takes to types of medi cards, or a mini hard drive which I have which means I don't have to lug the laptop around on shoots...does take 6MP pictures but does take a while to render them...

I have the coolpix 5000 and think it's great. I saw images from the 5700 which are even better...
I still see that RGB noise in dark photos...

I bought my camera 3 months ago, a Olympus C-4000 zoom. 4 mbpixle. I was choose between the Nikon CP 4500 and the olympus.
I choose the Olymous because the images has less noise, and the SUPERB 2 cm macro limit. Pluss you can use manual settings for everything.

same as the coolpix, am i right?
a very good photographer sugeested the nikon because of the colors and stuff. I can make macro's .5cm and have a shutter from 1/2000 sec. till 8 minutes...
- Voutje0
nice pics tomkat. but same problems with noise and even a little bit more with white parts... i heard there was a special plugin being developed for photoshop for thse digital camera problems...someone knows ?
- tomkat0
you really see some noise there..hmm..i agree but..
i don't think u can find a camera with less noise in this price region..and on most pics it just works fine..
but I'd really like to see some pics of that leica digilux cam

I heard that a mirror reflex like th D2 is coming this year in the same price region as the coolpix 5000...
- Voutje0
tomkat, i see some noise but for web it is more tha perfect. Only when you print it or use it in a design some colors act a little weird...
