anyway, hacking anything would be illegal, and not worth the pain...
...another thing: dont get afraid to fast, only because they send you a mean letter. get some lawyer-advice on that...and if they wanna go to court and you feel they broke the contract cause they own you money, dont be afraid of fighting them in front of a court!
...im not a lawyer, but i know that some people send you the kind of letter you received just to scare you...
...find some legal advicer in italy, and fight them in tribunal if necessary!
good luck:-) dont give up!

Are they still using the stuff?

eddy, there was no biuld fee as its a profit share, but I have fullfilled everything written in the initial brief for creating the site, but it is stated in the contract the he has full rights to the site, and he owns it.
No mention of standards whatsoever.

thanks guys, good info, I intend to go to a lawyer and work out exactly where I stand, I have the feeling the law is on my side here, but he has expensive lawyers and he is Italian. that puts the fear up me a bit.
I intend to fight but obviously I would rather we just dropped the whole thing and not go to court. which is probably what he is hoping I will do, but I just havent got the time for all this shit.

If you did what was specifically in the brief, and the contract stated that that was what you were to do, and you created ASP stuff for it, then to me it sounds like a problem with the new host, and not the code you created.
Is anyone else thinking this? The guy is mad because the code and site don't work. Maybe there are different ways that ASP is run on a particular server?
Sound's like he's blaming you because you're the easiest target in the whole mess.

ASPEmail and ASPImage were both installed and used on the previous server, I expect he (or his new developers) havent realised that they need these server components for the site to function completely.
If he hasnt paid me and wants to send me to court then why should I help him by giving him this information, it is his resposibility to find a server with the appropriate software already installed before changing over the server.
The hosting of the site was all his responsibility.

you should be able to get a solicitor to send him a letter demanding payment fairly cheaply, that will probably make him think twice especially if he has just lost a previous case.
