I friend of mine asked me to install WinXP on her old computer. I didn't see the machine but she's upgrading from WIn98. I assume it's only 128 MB of RAM and the cmputer itself is something like 3-4 years old. Isn't it a bit too old?

probably. WinXP takes up a shit load of memory compared to the other windows OS. You need at least 512mb to get it runnin smooth

isn't the required RAM like 256? if not, it should be, xp is a good os, but requires alot of RAM.
you can tweak it so you don't have a bunch of shit running in the background.

it's ok. better performance if all that ugly skins and effects are removed and if the processor is at least 400mhz speed. also128 mb ram required. i guess it will work fine.

agreed, use the classic windows interface and shut off any uneeded services...
check the motherboard and see if there are any memory slots available... old memory is cheap so you could prolly add a 64-128mb stick depending on what the board supports and speed the box up quite a bit.

not necessarily, it just depends on the system.
slowest machine i ever tested xp on was a p2 450 with 128. it was kind of slow on somethings, but the os itself worked decently.
what is it going to be used for?
