yeah laugh (hehe) have you tried it? - we have 6 mac workstaions set up in the graphic department, and we in the product design department quite easily send autocad, rhino, softimage and max files to them, the only problems that sometimes occur is rendering large frames or animations using plugins like brazil or blurs pack. all we do then is render to network using backburner and the lisences for brazil and WELLA!

from your example, you might could get away with a 3d plugin for illustrator depending on how much you want to do.I've been playing with Cinema4d latly, seems easy enough. i hated max. and then if you got alot of time on your hands you can learn maya. but like i said, its very possible you could get away with a 3d plugin for illustrator. Theres one called 3D popart thats decent.

I have to go with Cinema 4d, fast renderer, great rey tracing, lowest overhead for newcomers, best results.

I say Cinema 4d..
If you already know how to use 3dmax then C4d is fuc*ing simple...
