I hate Illustrator.
I miss Freehand still to this day. They way it handled anchor points, it's options for anchor points. The customisable layout and panels.
Drawing two points and pressing 'alt' and simply dragging an extra anchor point out from the middle of the line, and it being bezier for you. I had a whole Illustration style based around that move.
I hate Illustrator.
It feels like software from 1990s still.
Want to taper a box... Free Distort. A clumpy stupid panel pops up with no controls and you've to fiddle around with a tiny preview trying to guess the transformation then apply it. then try to rotate that cube, the stupid Free Distort doesn't rotate with it.
Why Can't Adobe simply copy at least C4D methods, it's spine like options, and add in Deformation effects like C4D's taper... something independent to the artwork that you can scale and rotate and move around, then group to your drawing to keep it in place. And customisable panels. I don't want to clip Object > Transform > Reflect... I want a frigging button to do it, in the transform panel.
Total lame awful crap software.
I simple detest that I have to use it.
Yeah there's sketch and all those others, but I don't care, I want Freehand to have been keep going, and for adobe to have dumped Illustrator.- can't disagreeGnash
- Sometimes i still use Freehand on a W7 machine, then import to Ai for prepressOBBTKN
- Free distort feature blows my mind in illy. It's still the exact same hunk of crapHayoth
- can't agree, use hot keys and learn to use it noob********
- Know the hot keys, it still doesn't help the fact it's running code form the 1990sfruitsalad
- Didn't CorelDraw have that same drag-new-bezier feature?i_monk

It's weird that white privilege and privilege in general is a thing.
I feel bad for people who become janitors and construction workers or work at the super market and don't have the advantage to move up.
- my neighbor is maxed out at 26 with his part time career and mcdonalds and a local restaurant because he suffers from dyslexia and never graduated college.********
- im more impressed with the fact he lives on 1500$USD a month. puts things in perspective when i cant get that raise to 40/hr********

i slept from 2ish in the morning till 6pm, i had 8 hours of work for a client and im done with it already... so i can either
1. get drunk and try to pass out by 3am waking me up at about 11am with a hangover.
2. go to bed sober and risk seeing the sunrise, blowing my whole day because i will sleep till 2-3pm.
3. pulling a all-nighter - drunk or sober and pass out at 9-10pm
my sleeping hours are fucked.

More on Illustrator...
If you're using a wacom with illy, and working fast, you don't always select all the text in the input boxes for font sizes etc.
So you enter a number for a font size, maybe 32 - and you've left a 'x' in the box from where it previously had "16 px".
It would take maybe 1 or two lines of very basic code to just parse out the users inputted text for any un recognised characters or units sizes. I have coded such an input box in flipping Action Script 1 back in the day. So why can\t the adobe team do that?
Because it's still running code from the 1990's and all adobe do is shove another useless feature or gimmick into it, rather than polish and refine their softwares.
- your supposition is incorrect
-
input boxes are capable of complex mathematical input

More pain from illustrator:
selecting a 'stroke' in illy:
Using either 'Select' or 'Direct Select' tool with supreme accuracy you have to hit the tiny thin centre path of the stroke to select it. Otherwise you're into selecting other crap hell.
it would make life soooooo very easy and work so much more pleasurable and quick if I could simply select strokes by clicking on them!
Anywhere on them. Clicking anywhere on the screen where it's rendered pixels related to that stroke, should select the path.
With one tool - the select tool. No keyboard shortcuts or two tool combo hacks. just a frigging selection tool.
You simply can't use illy with a wacom, when you move the pen down to click, it's impossible to do so super accurately, you always move 0.1 mm off, which lands you in illy selecting hell.

- Blue disc is a filled circle. Black line is a path with thick stroke.fruitsalad
- instead of whining like a little bitch why don't you update your illustrator, rtfm, and post rants in one of the illustrator or adobe threads?sted
- update my illy? i've got the latest version.
And this is blog stuff. everyday of my life.fruitsalad - well than you know what's the next step. (just a hint: it's in the View menu)sted

- To all at the above comments. Crap. It should just select the stroke, by seeing that i'm figging clicking on the stroke!fruitsalad
- There should be no hacks, annoying smart guides or locking layers crap. Just one tool, one click, stroke selected.fruitsalad
- start drawing and after the 4-5 overlapping objects you will see why is this shit that way, not the way you imagine. smart guides are actually greatsted

Work will be dead for me at the end of December and I have a vacation in January so I'm thinking it might be interesting to get a short term job for the holidays and just earn some cash and do something different for a week or two.
Anyone done this? Any suggestions?

I feel like when I see a lot of video demo reels, that I never have a clear idea of what this person did for each shot show. Were they a PA, director, shooter, editor?
Do you think it would be beneficial to show a small icon in the lower left/right of the screen indicating what you did for each shot in the reel?

Is Cyber Monday now a week long event? I feel like i was getting Cyber Monday emails on last Thursday and still getting them today. They all said "Cyber Monday Starts early" or "We've Extended our Cyber Monday Deals". Shit, they might as well make all of November and December Cyber 1/6th year.

It's amazing how much music changed from the 70's to late 80's. Just comparing Roy Ayers albums... like completely different artists as the years go by. Trends win $$$ I guess.
