I was listening to the radio on the way in this morning. On a primarily black liberal radio show here in Detroit I listened to an article examining the acculturation and mass marketing of black culture throughout the world. Eminem and Justin Timberlake were used as prime examples of modern day "artists" that are "pimpin black cuture". A thought that is really sticking with me is that people all over the world are referencing black culture with a sense of reverance, and some with a sense of racism. More often than not in my experience people use ghetto-ese as a form of joke(mostly whites). Does anyone else notice this? the idea that lots of people embrace black culture to a certain point, but parody it in their own expression of it. Do you see this a sublte form racism?

it's no more racist than it is for a black singer to sing songs that were written by caucasians. That's complete BS.

Sorry you lost me at 'I'...
- rasko40
everything is for sale, everything is revered and everything is parodied, its just that when the word 'black' gets involved everybody gets all over sensitive and starts shouting 'racism' and 'we need an award ceremony' and shit.
- JazX0
Even more so is the fact that people of mixed heritage, for example Halle Berry, call themselves black. That's also BS. I lived in Africa itself and the mixed people there don't call themselves black. ;)
- JazX0
exactly rasko, it's complete BUNK!

i think many people just don't understand the culture and as a result act the way you described it.
same with christianity, or religion in general. i see this a lot.
- JazX0
also a good point mitsu, Arab culture is heavily misunderstood by the Western world for example.

"everybody gets all over sensitive and starts shouting 'racism' and 'we need an award ceremony' and shit. "
Now thats comedy! I have to agree, it seems that as soon as 'ethnic' enters the conversation everyone gets hyper sensitive.
- JazX0
You guys couldn't be more correct. Such total and blatant BS. ;)
- JazX0
Bottomline is $$. If it sells they will dress you as a Martian and you can dance down the street naked painted blue. You think that mass marketers give a flying F?

Political Correctness is the killer here folks, everyone feels like they should be offended now for any reason.
As Dennis Leary said "we are living in an age where our sons are going to get sent home from school for writing the word 'girl'."
Its the same point just a different group...
- JazX0
hah hahaaa
- mitsu0
what has always bothered me are ethnic groups that segregate themselves and get offended when they are treated differently...
this is just cause and effect, and in the age of political correctness, a hope for resolution is futile as all open (effective) communication is lost. the day we can speak openly again without someone getting their feelings hurt, we'll be able to find commong ground.
- JazX0
so true
- JazX0
"what has always bothered me are ethnic groups that segregate themselves and get offended when they are treated differently... " - SO FUCKING TRUE!
- unknown0
this subject is sooo....
its not only the ethnic group that segregate
there`s also the jehovas, gays, .... name it,
i'll prove you they don't give a fuck about you
just timberlake, eminem, if i could get some cash acting and dressing like a white man,
i'll do exactly the same thing
- ian0
Its any group who feels hard done by and wants some respect. But its the whole PC thing that gets to me, Im not a bigot or a racist, I just hate everyone.

y'all should read the autobiography of Malcolm X.
you can't speak freely and expect no one to be angered by it. there's too much history folks. you can't ignore it. just be human about it.
Eminem hides nothing:
I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley / to do Black Music so selfishly / and use it to get myself wealthy
... i just wish he'd stop dressing like he's 18.
The commercialization of Yoga is intriguing too.
- JazX0
and k77 you are from Africa right?

"They" promoted Buddy Holly & Elvis so heavily because America didn't want it's white daughters swooning over Chuck Berry & Little Richard.
