I've just switched over to OSX and when I try to run Quark in Classic I keep getting the message 'cannot run Quark on a Locked Volume'
What the fuck is this? Has anyone else had this problem?
I hate Quark. HATE IT. Piece of crap, ugly ass programme.

quarks ok in os9 but I have never had that problem - you running a proper version - ie not a copy?
- ian0
Yup, its the real McCoy. I didn't have any problems with it in OS 9 but I now have OSX and its wrecking my noggin.
Reinstalled it and it looks ok.
Absolutely hate this programme.

Sounds like you have to log in as another user...

Get a PC. Not too many issues with programs not working, OS to OS..... and quark owns, wouldn't be an industry standard otherwise.
- ian0
Its industry stndard cos for years there was nothing to rival it.
Doesn't mean it aint an ugly, un-user friendly peice of crap.

I hate the short cuts in quark, its like playing twister but with your fingers....
- ian0
Damn straight. You learn all the handy one in Photoshop and by default you know most of the Illy ones too. Then you open Quark.
Now I keep trying to do Quark shortcuts in Illy. Its not right goddamn it!

Quark is an overpriced piece of crap. We're switching to InDesign at our studio.
- JoePete0
Mimio try to open classic mode first, then go and then open the Quirk file. We have had this problem before but we usually go to another machine.
PS: get InDesign!

Ive asked why we are upgrading to Quark 6 instead of Indesign, but most printers use quark so we're not switching over.
Damn I hate Quark, I've heard that in version 6 you cant retro save to previous versions. Which is shit when you think it would cost over 20 grand to upgrade a couple of machines.

I have an issue with Quark - I have bought Quark 6 for Mac OSX - never had to use it before so I don't have version(s) 1- 5 or any access to them. Since most people appear to use Quark 4 on a Mac I still can't interface with them as my Quark only saves down to version 5. How can that work - I can't buy version 4 even if I thought it was worth doing so. I have to rely on the printer having at least version 5.
To me, it seems crazy. I'm hoping I can use InDesign for most things - needless to say I had to part with 1000K for Quark which is too painful to think about.

You can save to v5, still sucks though when you only have v4+6. At the moment my co-worker brings his powerbook w/ a pirate v5 to work everday, so we can save new documents to the old format.

Its just shit. Quark are just bastards, the programme should be a joy to use but instead it provokes huge levels of anger with its finnikcy quirks.
As soon as quark can open indesign docs, the company will have to sort itself out when everyone switches over to indesign.

We can print any file u send us.
Quark, InDesign, even Publisher! What printer out there can't print Indesign?
Look for a new printer!JP*//

This thread quickly evolved into something completely different, but did you actually solve the problem? I'm pretty sure it all has to do w/ user rights in X, so logging in as for example Admin should do the trick.

In Ireland?
A printer that prints from indesign.
Any suggestions?
- jk_b0
Oh yeah - have had the same problem as JoePete w/ having to start classic mode before Quark. Still thats a OS X problem to me, not really something Quark can be blamed.
- JoePete0
Well we aren't in England but thanks to FTP and Fetch we can transfer files! We are located in Grand Rapids Michigan, USA
Email me tell what you need.
I should be able to help you out.JP*//
