tfs - i'm not interested in all design threads posted here and so I ignore them...
But yea- this is a design forum so it should stay oriented towards issues surrounding design and the like BUT it is ALSO a community where people not unlike in a friendship group enjoy talking about life, sport and other unrelated issues.
lastly everyone has different opinions/takes on what is INTERESTING or WORTHWHILE - just because you don't see it as worthwhile doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.
get me? :)

well.. QBN doesn't deem it worthwhile and they outrank us both... but, i'm done with this. I've said my peace, hopefully this thing will self destruct before i wake up in the morning.

"So... strat by example. Can you find a common ground with me? I will try to find one with you. Go ahead and start."
lilbabyleg, i'm glad you see where i'm coming from. i was beginning to think that people read the first paragraph of my thread and started telling me that there's nothing wrong with discussing politics on here. those responses are proof that my point didn't come accross well. which is frustrating, because it's a perfect example of what i'm talking about.
let me state this more clearly. i have NOTHING against war/political threads. they are fine. but i have yet to see a good percentage of you engage in a CONSTRUCTIVE debate. within the first 15 posts they all go to pot. and you wonder why NT deletes them.
"maybe your continually told that the issues are to complex so you wont play a part in politics."
no, lowimpakt, i understand the complexity of issues as you do: "Of course there is no simple answer to political issues"."you should be critical of your own views and seek to educate yourself. dont be afraid of not understanding and dont be offended if someone doesnt agree with you." lowimpakt, i agree with this, and this is not a problem i am having.
"And by people continually ignoring the issue and having inane conversations about predominantly bad design or brainless mac vs pc conversations then nothing will ever change." again, please re-read my post or have me elaborate. you just went on and on about something that i totally agree with. are you getting my point yet?
"If you dont want to read/participate in the posts, leave as they are, simple, no?" BXCAR, i agree, however, i just thought i'd point out something that i saw that was taking these conversations nowhere but to the extremes of getting flagged and just creating tension between people. buy you're probably right, i should just have kept my nose out of it. or would that be a sign of apathy?
"If you DON't feel you have the ability to make informed comment it doesn't mean you can't participate though as it is often through discussion that we can learn." cookie, i agree, but it's 'uninformed' people that are immediatley tagged as 'brainwashed' and who's arguments are automatically thrown out the window with a load of insults toward them. is this what it means to engage in intellectual conversation? if so, count me out.
"in this light I don't get your point." this isn't the first time today that's happened. ;)

I agree, this is a small community of people, brought together by the one thing we have in common, design. But all small communities discuss everything and anything. But i think mitzu's point is that we do not 'discuss' politics in here, we merely push our ideas onto others, who in turn get annoyed and push their ideas back, and it ends up in a slagging match which becomes non constructive.

sexypixel, that's it! boy i feel much better now!

ahh.
Yeah totally agree. People are the problem - not the threads.
Oh yea - and if you support war you're a flaming idiot - my 2cents worth. ha! ;)

I've been wondering why war threads are silenced after some while.
They don't get deleted right away, the threads happen to go on for a while until somebody gets enough of it, be it a moderator or the QBN inspirators itself.
I read through the broadcast manual and this line holds it all:
8. Anything QBN® deems irrelevantSo... what IS the policy? Obviously there is no policy. Or is there?
I'm only guessing here.Newstoday appears to be a forum with unwritten laws that once youre signed up and logged in youre left to the goodwill of the eye thats watching you.
Newstoday has next to the regular postings in the PV-AN a lot of visitors from the design/advertising/communication ID 'industry'.
Is NT worried these clients will be scared off by warthreads and anti imperialistic remarks? Putting NT in a bad daylight.
I'm only guessing here. From my experience I see warthreads and political inspired discussions are being silenced, not right away, but from the moment someone makes a statement that is then received by someone from the NT staff as being controversial, not constructive or not relevant.
I've seen posts by moderators on the subject that go dead after ppl asking some more info on the subject. Am i being paranoid or ist it that some ppl get called back once in a while?!As said before... I'm only guessing.
As NT appearingly finds these topics irrelevant I wonder how they deal with topics that cover nonsense content as the randomize thread (no offense here TF) or topics like 'I just bought a new BMW, what car do you drive?'
aside this:
nothing but love to NT

Saw an interesting thing on JFK last night. He actually saved the US from a big disaster during the Cuban Missle Crisis. Wish Bush would have learnt a bit from him... a peaceful way to save the Country and maintain the image of the US.
See euros... we havent always had lame leaders.
