I urgently need some advice on how to change my sleeping cycle.
The last four weeks have been terrrible. I have been up till 8 am and slept from from 8 - 12 almost every day
I used to have a life! For god sake.
I went to museums, met with friends, took photographs, watched films... or simply went for a walk in the city almost everyday.
In the last four weeks I have bearly been out.... I went for a pack of cigarettes yesterday and got dizzy because I wasn't used to open space *lol*
This needs to change now
I want my life back

i am feeling your pain...
going through the same thing only just until about 4:30 am - then i need to sleep until at least 9:30 or so, and am barely functioning on 5 hrsmy mind is just too busy with ideas and thoughts to sleep
when i do try, for the first hour i find myself kicking like a dog does when it's running in its sleep - nervous energy i suppose
melatonin can be used and it works, but don't overdue it, it can be addictive since it is something your body naturally generates and regulates
bananas before bed have helped too... ( old trick )

start running in place, then open the door and run of it. do this repeatedly throught the day. then take a shower lie down on your bed and close your eyes. You'll fall asleep

Try and stay awake for 24 hrs, shit stay up for 48 if you need to. Then set yourself a time to go to sleep and a time to wake up. worked for me a couple times.

I've had this problem my whole life. Energy from ideas and excitement. I was diagnosed with clinical insomnia when I was 13 or so.
Couple tricks: One, dont lie in bed when you cant sleep. The bed isnt the place for NOT sleeping. Go stare at a wall or read somewhere ELSE! This helps me sleep.
Two, if all above fails after a week, take Tylenol PM at 9 or ten o'clock for a few days in a row.

I know exactly what you mean versa.
When I lay down... I get this super creative rush... I assemble movies, sketch out designs and so on as if i were on speed.
The 24h awake trick didn't work... tried it... twice
thanks for your help

Your breakfast should contain lots protein so eat something like beefsteak in early morning even if you don't feel like it. And your dinner should contain lots carbon-hydrate such as pasta. No coffee or tea after 9pm.
Also, "St.John's wort" calms your tension.
Here's another one: music therapy

also, it may sound silly, but lately when i am sitting there thinking, mind going crazy, i start concentrating on my breathing with a super focus,
in effect, i guess meditating....maybe we should start the NT 4:00 am club

ciggaretes sap you of energy and take away your appetite.
I gave them up and slowly began to realise i was doing alot more, eating well and it felt great. then i realised i was turning into a health freak so i went out and got totaled and took up smoking more than i did before and everything is ok now

Mothers Tea
Fill a small sauce pan 3/4 of water.
Add a gram of your finest chronic.
(if you have a vaporizor, you can use the left overs)
Bring to a slow boil.Let cool.
Pour a shots worth into a small glass making sure to straign out any leaves or buds.
Enjoy. It will calm you down & allow you to enjoy a good nights sleep.
Works for me. But I never really have issues sleeping. I get to bed at around 1 or so. I get up at around 7:30. I manage by usually taking a puff or two before bed or in the evening. Makes things run a lot slower & allows me to enjoy my free time with my girl & not concerning myself with work...unless I need to be.
It makes no sense to get good sleep. You will be 10 times more productive if you do. You can't tire yourself out. Your body will fight it like a flu. Make sure you get into a good sleeping routine. That doesn't mean you have to go to bed early, just make sure you do at the same time. If you are not sleepy, hang out on the couch doing something where you do not have to respond. Just enjoy, like watching tv or reading. Breathing also works well. Massage therapy helps.
I had issues once to the point where I would be walking up at 3 or 4 am and would have to enjoy a bowl in order to go back to sleep.
Goodluck!

"But I never really have sleeping issues."
correction...
"But I never really have sleeping issues anymore."
:::
"It makes no sense to get good sleep."
correction...
It makes no sense NOT to get good sleep.
Sometimes I think NT removes words from your post. Anyone else think this is the case? Give me back my words damnit.

I suffer from really bad insomnia, the best thing to do is everyday force yourself to take an hour and get out of your house, walk and be out and about. Take the full hour.
Take specific computer breaks as well, like from 12-1, like a normal person, and turn off your computer at night, like at 10 PM, computer goes off, doesn't come on until 9 am. Don't Cheat.
Read or find another activity, don't watch television, television is like the stupid computer, you can physically sit and watch t.v. for hours on end, with little to no brain expenditure. Its the Zombifiyer.
exercise your brain with a book or drawing, or painting. If these all fail go to the doctor and get some decent sleep aids, like 10 days of Lorazepam, that will give you a great 10 day of sleep regularity.
there is also pills you can get in the US, they are the stuff from turkey that makes you sleepy, name escapes me, they come at health and vitamin store, many people swear by them...I cant get them in canada.

i read somthing interesting recently that suggested that having less sleep (ie 4 hour spurts like youve been having) is actually much better for you, and that it also lends to better 'Dream interpretation', it stated people who sleep long hoursfor 10+ hours are letting their concious leave their body for too long... ?

Michael Angelo used to sleep every two hours for 45 mins, in order to be creative all the time.
