not to detract from the tragedy but I couldnt help notice the irony - one country is crying out for millions of $ to save thousands of lives and rebuild a country and a few miles away someone spent billions of $ blowing up a country and taking thousands of lives.

I havent followed this thread as I was too busy having a life taking care of friends, they taking care of me, having fun, laughter, serious talks and all that.
Yeah lucky me and poor bastards in Iran I know. But:
An earthquake with 6.5 on the scale on Richter means:
houses not constructed with inforced concrete collapse, all wooden structures collapse, torsionpoint fundament buildings like bridges and hanging stuctures collapse. Your (physical) vision is so blurred by the vibrations that running out of a building is not possible.
What has this to do with being a first world - third world issue I wonder. Have you ever been outside, have you ever travelled, met people in Tunesia or Israel or Iranian people?
They are not idiots.I have the impression that I completely misinterpreted your posting Ichiro cause I find it hard to believe that people tend to be so utterly stupid (S T U P I D) saying such crap.
Please communicate Ichiro and explain cause this medium (forum) is and stays too minimalistic for any decent conversation/opinion it seems.

technically, wooden structures do very well in earthquakes due to woods ability to move and sway with the ground. When it's combined with mud and brick is when it becomes too rigid and colapses when shaken.
Very sad though what happened in Iran. Hope those people get all the help they can get.

Its a terible thing.
Will everyone see Bushs' efforts as being a bad move as well? I can just see it all being twisted as a political strategy to gain control of Iran.
