it reminds me of a clothes line being pulled in with items on it.
so what was the actual inspiration?i've seen 3d planes in flash before, but this is easily best executed with attention to detail.

Love it Josh. One idea:
When re-focusing on a new plane, you might try to have varying alpha levels for the blurred bit, making the bounce between blurred & un-blurred not so jerky.
Yeah, that will slow down things, but it would be interesting at least.

Right now there are only 5 stages of focus/unfocus since we didn't want it to take forever to download. The client verison will include many more iterations and hence be more smooth.
Also, part of the design goal of the engine was to avoid using _alpha at all - my engines tend to eat up enough CPU as is without adding _alpha into the mix!
