Why is it that on some sites you can drag and drop a jpg to the adress bar or photoshop, while on some sites you can't.?
I've tried to copy the filename of the jpg from the properties dialogue and pasting it in the adress bar, with no luck.

Also, the kind of jpgs that can't be dragged and dropped can't be saved as anything else than bmp's...

sometimes they are protected.
if you still need them desperatly, you can put yer cursor on the image and right-click and choose copy and then paste in some image-editing app like PS.

I wonder how they do that.

often they put a transparent gif on top, on other occasions it is some nifty script of which i am afraid i have no knowledge of...

Even if you paste the actual filename and location into the adress bar?

in that case it is a server-side script that prevents you from saving any jpeg in a particular directory.

It can also be a browser-specific bug. We had problems where our users could only save JPEG images as BMP, on Explorer 6 for Windows, if we used a PHP access control script for our restricted Members content. (Explorer was thinking that the URL was calling a PHP file, not correctly reading the URL as a reference to the JPEG called in the script, as it should according to standards.)
We're currently rewriting our access control script to workaround this.
