So I have decided to enter the realm of the mac! Particularly because it will be nice to have a mac to test sites on an stuff finally - instad of having to ask friends to check them out!! More often than not, I think that.
I won't be doing much designing on it - really just want it for portability - wireless at home checking emails and such - writing word docs and spreadsheets etc...
Now...why should I, in your opinion, put out more for the 12" powerbook? DO I need to - or will an ibook suit me just fine. Would love the aluminium...but not at the expense of my wallet unless it was realyl going to make a difference!
Also - are mac notebooks as easily upgraded as PC laptop's are?

Any G4 iBook will do that stuff really well.

email/web/word, iBook will suit you well...the 12"PB is faster even compared to the 14"Ghrtz, because of a faster bus, more cache...the memory is also more expandable (1.25 capacity v. 640 in the iBook)...PB has bluetooth integrated too...but for what you will use it for, iBook will work well....

Jevad my friend, i got a powerbook and its great but i just got back from the finance office and paid the son of a bitch off, so in your case with a tight budget and what u are doing with it a ibook is cool shit to. Instead of gettin the powerbook, see if you can get upgrades on your ibook for cheaper then what you would spend on a powerbook. As for easly upgraded, depends on how easly your wallet will open, all laptop parts are more expensive then desktop hardware and once u step into the mac world everything goes up in price. Its good to have different options and dont just jump into it, look around see whats out there, even last years model of the powerbook might be cheaper or maybe go used or somthin. If you own your own business, just lease one and write it off. I hope this helps you out alittle.

get the ibook, and use the money you saved for cool things like a roadtrip where you can take your ibook or a trip to the local zoo or something.

I just priced a 17" powerbook on the US apple site at $3000 then went to the Irish site and priced the same powerbook at €3600 or $4,427. Whats the deal with that?
I love my mac and I want a powerbook but jesus apple are robbing bastards!

i was talking with brundlefly about this a while back and he says the pbook's monitor are more consistant with color. what i mean is on my ibook if i move my head around the lightness shifts but not so-oo much n the pbook.
- jevad0
"pbook's monitor are more consistant with color"
has this issue been acknowledged by apple? does it happen on all the ibooks?
- BonSeff0
dont know, just what i heard. do you have an apple store in denver? if so, you should check it out. i cant say for sure tho

i just actually got an ibook and i was really preparing for it to be my thinkpad replacement. it's a no go really on that at the moment. i dropped in 640mb ram and thought it'd speed it up a bit.. no go.
about the only thing it's really a replacement for with the thinkpad is the weight.. it's nice and light and as long as you don't have to actually do any flippin' work on it you're set.
i guess i'd just try to find a pbook with a L2 cache.. that's really about it.

oh, btw, my ibook is an 800 G4 12"
