resume.. plaintext?

excuse me because i have such a bad hangover my head aches just by mousing over the search button.
anywya i am applying for a non design job.. should i just have my resume plain text in the body after all the introduction bull shit? do people even open attached resumes anymore?
oh and exactly what type of shit could i write for the cover letter or whatever whatever and shit.. i havent applied for a job in like 3 years, this is pretty much an office tasks/etc job, and blah blah blah.
help me please, you can flame me if you want too, because i probably wont even remember typing out this message after i wake up from passing out.

include a text-only version in the email then maybe include a link to your resume in another format if you want. Otherwise you're forcing someone to download something they might not want.

Exactly what gabriel said.
Within the past year, I was just in charge of hiring a web designer and a PHP programmer. Each opening yielded over 300 resumes.
-Be as breif as possible.
-Attachements are horrid (even if it's a all pretty and designed)
-Plaintext resume
-Link to your resume online
-Link to your homepage
-Familiarize yourself with the company and personalize your email for them
