I am just now trying to figure out php/mySQL so I can start making database driven sites. I found some good tutorials but I am stalled at creating mySQL files. I have a host that uses plesk and it is simple to create a mySQL file but editting it is a mystery. What am I missing?

dunno much about plesk, but you can create SQL tables (if that's what you mean) from SQL queries. Read on how to make queries to an SQL server from PHP , then read some stuff on SQL and there you go. In short, RTFM :)

You can use PHPmyAdmin or Eskuel to work with your databases in a more user friendly way:

http://www.phptools4u.com/script…Mike Buzzard posted this to help install WAMP [Apache, MySQL, PHP in a Windows XP platform].

just shows you how much more helpful some people are :)

I would reccomend installing phpmyadmin to work with your mySQL Server. With this you can set up several databases each with permissions to the phpmyadmin website set up on your server. Each user can be granted privilages or have them revoked by an admin or root. That root would be you if it's your own server or you might be a user with permissions to only your database if your on a shared server.
I would suggest learning everything you can about MySQL and PHPMyAdmin
If you do run your own server then you will also need to know about IIS for windows or Apache for linux, these are your webservers and once your at an advanced level you will need to know the ins and outs and how they work with your websites.
It is also fine to use Apache on windows like unfittoprint suggested, but if your a newbie I would not suggest it at this point. It will make things a little more complicated but the knowledge learned will be very usefull. Have fun it's a long ride.

Also simple database and table creation can be achieved with the MySQL Command prompt AKA COMMAND LINE. with simple SQL statements like:
CREATE DATABASE dname
CREATE TABLE tnameAdding data to the tables is a bit more difficult using command line, to learn how to use your command propmt go here:
http://www.breaks247.com/php/php…This is something i revised a few months ago for refeence it should still be adequate for any new versions of PHP, MySQL or PHPMyAdin

I just like to add that I personally prefer eSKUel to PHPMyAdmin, because the interface it's cleaner and much intuitive.
both do the same. You decide.

I have not used that one yet, Is it easier to do inner joins with?
- unfittoprint0
inner joins?
u mean connecting db's, tables?
yes, I think, altough I haven't tested all the options. Check their help files...

Inner Join:
Semantically equivalent to the comma. Can also be specified using the INNER JOIN keywords.
Without a WHERE condition it is equivalent to a Full Join.
Usually you will specify a WHERE condition to make this a true Inner Join.

As with phpmyAdmin you can make manual queries.
Or you're asking a menu type interface to make those?
something like a form? If so, I don't think you have it there...

Language=English?????
Im having trouble with the languages is this the right site?

Yeah MSAcces and MSSQL Server let you do these things with a GUI. I have been looking for something that can do the same with a MySQL DB. I hate writing those things.
- unfittoprint0
that's the right. you can choose the install/GUI language in the process.
Well, I think there's a limit to db changes using the the interface... at least with these 2 examples...
