just saw the first post about the dog-poster... the key thing there was the idea of them expressing their soul... Whether with concious intent or not, that does sound more like art...

I don't agree that art is about the artist. You don't have to know what the artist was aiming to achieve for you to enjoy the finished article.
The birds nest is tricky. In itself I don't think it can be called art on a conceptual level, but you could appreciate it's aesthetics, more like a craft. However, if it was part of a wider context, say deforestation, then yes, I think it could be seen as art because you would see more than a birds nest, you would think about the social, political and environmental implications of deforestation relating to not only birds but other animals. I believe it can only become art after the human hand has placed it in a context where we can view it as such. I think the placement of an object can make it art.

I don't think the birds nest is art if the birds didnt intend it to be... It might be inspiring...but not art is it?
but someone placing the nest in a gallery in a certain way...yep..now it is art. (but the artist is not the bird)

Art is a creation that is made to make us think in abstract terms to come to concrete understanding of the world.
Art is an intended experience by means of abstract concepts.
Art does not have to be abstract theme in order for the means of illusionary thinking to be abstract.
It's more about the way way you come to your understandings of the experience that is abstract.

Art is foremost a deed, not just a hobby, a deed for which all of you are accountable for and must bear the criticism of, never forget that
