thanks Idsgn,
that is one of the better tut's i've seen....I think it is easier to do on a flat graphic, but i'm having a little more difficulty with a photo...any other suggestions?

Use the burn tool... duh! Works great.

DON'T use the bevel man- it looks super cheese.
take the image you want burned and turn it dark brown. Then give it a little of a linear blur, and use a dirty brush to jack it up a little bit. combine it with the clean layer. repeat. do this until it's nice and weathered. Then dupe it, make it darker in the middle- just play with it.
NO BEVEL.
