As said before: You can't go wrong with Sony, Dell or IBM.
But check out the Toshiba Widesceen models; they are powerful, a good value and come with a 15 or 17" Widescreen display. They are available either with a Centrino Processor or with a Pentium4 Processor.But I am too completely into macs, so others might know more.

actually, one can go wrong with a Sony when it comes to laptops. big pricetag aside there's some incompatibility to deal with.

sonys have a problem with not being compatible with other hardware from another manufacturer.
my friend has a toshiba and it never had service pack 1, is that wrong? i thought all winxp's had to have either 1 or 2...
