how long till quark dies?
it inevitable isn't it? in the past week alone i have heard of three different companies who are switching to indesign, primarily because quark 6 for osX has so many bugs in it.
i mainly deal with web, but does anyone have any reason to hold out for quark. any distinct advantages or capabilites that indesign can't?

I hope it dies!

it scares me that adobe might one day control all media-authoring tools, so that's one reason i'm sticking with quark
plus, it's more fun to say "quark" than "indesign" (is there such thing as "outdesign"?)
they're both ubersimilar as far as I'm concered (actually, I feel i have more control with quark, just cause i know it better)

I haven't found one thing that Quark does better than inDesign.

then try using it....

good - thats what i like to hear.
anyone else have problems saving .pdfs out of quark 6 without crashing the program.
in order to save off a pdf i have to save each spread as an .eps, fix the tabs that don't translate correctly to illustrator and then save them off as .pdfs and compile them in acrobat.
aargh!

Both have thier own +/-. Personally i wish everyone would start using InDesign because it is superior in almost every respect. However it is a beast of a program to run on slower machines. In a few years that probably won't matter as much though....

no problems here with indesign. the "no one supports it" arguments doesn't fly anymore. i took me a while but i convinced my old shop to switch. they just did it and they are a little scared cause they are so used to quark, and they have some stuff to get out the door so they will wait for a fresh new project to start working in it. the $ was also a factor, indesign is so much cheaper.

Quark remains the choice of large scale publishing and InDesign is unlikely to unseat it soon. 95% of the Newspapers in America control design and publishing workflow with Quark Publisher, as do the majority of magazines. Xpress may die, but Quark will live.

hopefully VERY soon
