there is also a new ebola outbreak in sudan. experts expect a 350,000+ death toll on ebola alone. fucked up.

FYI, there is oil in Sudan. Not like mega-amounts as in Iraq/Saudi Arabia. But still, quite a bit.

It's tough for the UN and NGO's lke Amnesty international. But especially for the UN. The US led war in Iraq has caused a crisis in the UN constitutional framework - and that of international "policing." Nothing can heppen there or anywhere else without US say-so. Or atleast someone from the security council taking the initiative and putting pressure on the US.

It makes me sick how nobody seems to care or offer the much needed help.

BTW, Amnesty and the UN do virtually nothing in these situations. Sad situations. :(

--------------------------------...It does seem like that but in fairness all amnesty can do is mount political pressure and monitor and highlight the situation - which they do

and as for the UN : it is such a multifunction org. it is hard sometimes to see what they are doing but they do operate on a humaitarian level. At the end of the day any intervention is the decision of the permenant members of the UN Security Council i.e.
China,
France,
Russia,
UK
USand you can only imagine the politics and preferences involved there...........

For Example in Zimbabwe: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice…

Yes, like the way France took the initiative in Haiti recently and got the US to help overthrow a constitutional government. It was made to seem like a legitimate UN operation, through support that was obtained from the security council. But that's a false impressiong; cos when it comes to security and armed intervention - the UN is a corrupt, subservient organisation.

crazy right?
- lowimpakt0
for a run down of the main structures of the UN.

so everyone wants us OUT of Iraq but IN Sudan.
Nice to be an armchair politician, having an arsenal of hindsight and criticism! Gosh, maybe the U.S. should just ask NT posters where to go and help next. or where not to go. good thing its easy as that!

I wanted the UN in Iraq. I didn't want an illegal invasion. don't hijack this thread with your weak politics please.
- JazX0
uh oh here we go :)
- JazX0
ok bottomline. innocent people die everyday and a lot of people sit around and do nothing about it getting fatter.
- lowimpakt0
Jaz, the only place I'm going is out into the sunshine ;)
If this thread is deleted when I come back I will be posting the original stories again.
