In MAC osX-panther:is there a way to view a font without it being installed in any font management app? In OS9 I remember you were able to double click the actual font and it would open in a sample page.

pretty much the same thing, double click it, it will show you a preview then give you the option to install it into Font Book if you want.

For some reason it doesn't do it. I double click any one of my fonts and nothing happens. I have to install it first. But I don't want to do that.

the good news...
there is a flash site (listed here a while back) that upon visiting it would look into your hard disk, access the fonts folder and display all the fonts on screen...
the bad news...
...can't remember the URL.

yeah. I recall that.
Do you know if it allowed you to direct it to a certain folder to view the fonts or it would go to one specific folder. And didn't it only view the fonts you HAD installed (which never made any sense to me). I think it only showed me wha tI have in FONTBOOK. I have many outside of fontbook that I want to view before I install because Fontbook is so buggy, I only want to install what I like. not everything. to save space.

http://www.stcassociates.com/lab… is the url to FontBrowser. I'm correct. it will only view what you have active. Seems a bit backwards cause you can those with no problem. There's no reason to see them on this app.

well what you could do is just make a new collection with the fonts you want to view, drag them to it then just delete what you don't want.
FontBook is pretty sketchy, i'm going to upgrade to Suitcase X1 soon, don't want to but....oh well.

suitcase allows you to look at any font in any folder, also search, etc-- also leaves your fonts where they are instead of moving/duplicating them in one of those endless confusing os x font folders

I'm asking again.

You might want to try TypeJet. it will allow you to view any non-OTF typeface by dragging the folder it is in onto the program's icon.
I wish it would preview OTF, but no such luck.

I'll try that. Any other suggestions?
