okay i got a pc amd 3000 running xp pro. i have a cd burner and a dvd burner. both of which worked perfect until yesterday. now everytime i put a blank cd or dvd in the drives and try to write to it, it just tells me that media is not empty and disc failed to write.
what the fuck, they are blank. tried it with several blank cds and dvds and same damn problem. anyone had anything like this? do i have another fucking virus? any help is apprecciated as always

I had the same problem, and then it went away...

im sure youve tried restarting.
try reinstalling the drivers? or roll-back the drivers to the originals?
all i know_
- lvl_130
yeah, i tried that war heroes but thanks anyway. it is really annoying. it seriously just seemed to happen over the course of like an hour. ugghh, i hope i can fix this problem because it is a royal pain. anyone else had similar problems/found solutions?

try formatting the disc
- lvl_130
?? huh?
it's formats it automatically when i burn it in nero.
am i off here, or does mac only prompt you for a format when a blank is inserted?

so...bump. tried all of the above. anyone have any idea why they aren't working? c'mon, anyone? i am going crazy trying to figure this out. do I have to just wipe my computer clean? don't want to, but if that's the only way...

Had the same problem. Switched brand of my empty cds and it worked fine for reasons unknown.
- lvl_130
that would make sense but...i have already used both types of recordable discs before with no problem.
really frustrating. i just got a new freelance job, and the thought of me having to tell the client to plug in my external drive to thier computer and download the files seems a bit...well, it's just not a good idea, not to mention a huge pain in the ass.

Wouldn't hurt to spend a few coins to check out another brand.

have you tried searching google for a winxp forum and ask there? theyre always a bunch of geeks who'll help you out.

"Wouldn't hurt to spend a few coins to check out another brand."
agreed. i'll try it out, but it is still confusing as to why it would work one second, then not work suddenly when using the same exact media.
warheros: funny that you say this 'cause i have a brother and a friend that usually never fail me. this time however, nothing has worked : (

Have you tried to update your NERO ? like the 6.1.17.xfgrd.123.455656.767.8
I know it's strange but who knows, maybe a wnaspi.dll or another damn thing like this.
tried another burning software ?
A punch in the tower ?

yeah i had this infurating problem a year ago on xp and nero. i cant remember all the details but it even ruined the disks it tried to write to. I also remember the caddy would not open without a re-boot.
I would try system restore to a time your system was working, that has cured lots of problems for me, in fact if i ever get a glyp..sytem restore has been kind to me.
Someone gave me a copy of Roxio Pro. this has been great for burning cd's and dvd's ever since. Works like magic now

yeh nero blows like that. first try doing a system restore and pick a previous date that it worked... then i would think about changing burning software. Exact Audio Copier maybe? its pretty solid suports cue sheets and m3u's too.
good luck!
