hey
yes, another question from the wild wooly world of www design..
im a freelancer and was given a project to do a flash game by a design agency. after initial meetings, there was very little communication from the client and slow responses to requests for feedback. after a couple months, i was told the other day i am being pulled from the project because they have hired a full-time flash designer, making the game build more cost-efficient for them.
i have no gripes with that as it makes sense for their wallet, but now they are quibbling over my invoice for hours spent doing initial mocks, revision, animations, specs and research. i'm trying to politely stand my ground but they seem annoyed or something.
has anyone had a similar experience? how did you deal with it? more importantly, did you get paid for your unused work?
moral support welcome.

get your papers signed before you start any work.
But hell yeah, that sucks. Cheer up man, because you know these guys don't know half of what they're doing so you're definitly better then the guy they hired.
- rabattski0
do you have any contract or something written regarding the initial work you've done?
- winter0
Let them know right now that you are not going to leave it like this.
That's how you can cheer up instantly.
I was wronged like this too by a friend and i regret (everyday) that i did not fight back

I wouldn't even worry about the fact that things are signed or not....cause whatever they say, you were engaged to do the work, you attended meetings, etc..did all the stuff that was required from you.
So stand your ground and state that upfront that you fully expect to be paid for what you have done.

send thenm the invoice and if they dont pay in 30 days sign up with a dept colection agency. They will take like 10% but hey no stress and you get paid.
if the shoe was on the other foot what would they do?
- Peter0
hurt their toes
- slappy0
oh and thanks for mentioning client and ethics in the same sentence... made me laugh
but treat them as they treat you dude
- rabattski0
there is definitely ground for getting your work done paid it's just a lot easier if you have some paperwork regarding this job.
anyways, they are free to choose someone else however what they are trying to pull off is very low and very disrepectfull. not a very smart way of doing business.
- slappy0
oh and buy a fire arm in case you become one of their "loose ends"

send them the f*cking invoice and follow up with a letter from your solicitor if they still haven't paid after 30. Await cheque.

Tell the district attorney that while you were uncharacteristically drunk in a astrip bar the other night, one of the direcotrs tried to get you do to a child pr()n site, and see what happens.
Helps if ur friends with the DA, of course, but hell, when thats true, you dont need to do the 1st bit in my experience.
Not that I am, but it sounded like I was for a little bit there.Fuck, Im not half as funny or clever when Im drunk as I think I am.
And it takes ages to tpye antuthin correclty too.
- Peter0
That's odd. I usually think I am twice as funny and clever when I'm drunk.

thanks for the pep talks/tactics. after phone wrangling, they are, apparently, coughing up. so, another victory for newstoday.
