question to those that recall audio digitally...is there an effect to make something sound old like a scratchy record beyond lowering the sampling rate? cause i love the sounds old records have when they hiss, but recording guitar directly to my comp is too clean.

Just play with some distortion effects and if you want some platescratching noise from an old record i use TubeHead

cool.
how about getting the effect of changing radio stations? all i can think of is reverse the transition and addition a bend and distortion

nahhhh man, just find a sample of that, there is tons and tons and tons of that trip-hop Portishead sounding thing out there, or yeah you could just record a record player. We sample records as well and damage the sound with effects, change rate and pitch, etc with Sound Forge and then import into ReCycle and export and use in Reason for resequencing. ;)

Yeah Jazx 's right just use a metal brush to fuck up an old vinyl record an scratch and record it.

aliendn...theres something called the grungelizer...its a vst that comes with cubase and nuendo...it willl give you that effect without lowering the sample rate.

there are also plenty of plug-ins that will do it for you with a plethora of tools. I would advise anyone looking to mix and match with total freedom take a look at Ableton Live http://www.ableton.com/ ROCK SOLID! Allow you to import anything and magically sequence/resequence it. Perfect for live performances as a DJ
