first, i don't want any "macs are better" bullshit.
ok, all my fonts were fine, then when i did a restart the other day about 1/2 of them changed hteir icon to a shortcut to adobe type manager, which i don't even have on my computer (maybe just a generic adobe font icon?) when i try to get info on them, it says that file isn't even on the system. anyone have this happen before?

that is odd...never experienced that.
try a system restore: :/

i'd do that, but would lose all the fonts (i'm thinking there is a way to get them back until i know i have to go for broke)

hahahahaaaaaa

you somehow, I think, converted from .ttf to .pfm or .pfb and your system got confused

Just install the adobe fontmanager, your pc probably doesn't support PostScript fonts only Truetype fonts, Mac does have this standard.

hmm.. i don't know. most of them were ahem, not licensed, so i can't really complain. i'll have to download the zip of them again.
the weird thing is that it wont' let me delete these shortcuts either, so when i try to install a replacement it says 'can't install font already exitsts,' but when i try to do anything else it says 'file does not exist'

I'm pretty sure it has to do with your Adobe Type Manager set-up

i don't have it installed... that's the best part...

i once had a problem with the font folder, but it wasn't as bad as your problemt. i used somethign called tweakui and it repaired the font folder for me...

did you move your font folder... I had a similar problem. I was networked and somebody moved th folder that had all my fonts.

You should not have to install font manager. Try using the install font utility that comes up under the file menu when you have the font folder open ... or have you tryed this?
