A lady here at my work actually made the statement that "Oprah is like a modern day Jesus"... not sure exactly what that's supposed to mean...
- Spix0
that is pretty cool.

She didn't pay for them out of her own pocket or anything.

its a new way of advertising, Apple has done the same, due to the big audience oprah has, this is a good way to advertise...she does this all the time...its all advertising.

Sounds like a good way to get more people purchasing more fossil fuels. If the cars were hybrids it would be better. No way this is simple kindness.

Anyway, I was immediately repulsed and sickened by the reaction of her audience when they were given new cars. The studio audience cried. They screamed. They hugged.
"Everybody gets a car! Everybody gets a car! Everybody gets a car!" Winfrey yelled, as she jumped up and down on the stage. Winfrey said the audience members were chosen because their friends or family had written to the show about their need for a new car. One woman's young son said she drove a car that "looks like she got into a gunfight"; another couple had almost 400,000 miles on their two vehicles.
They waddled out of the studio and down the sidewalk, following after Winfrey in their pantsuits and heels, looking like sweating, tear-streaked, corralled cattle, the lot of them.
By the way, the car: A stinkin' Pontiac.

i'm just jealous, i want a fuckin car
- DutchBoy0
nonsense.
give them bicycles.
there are better more urgent causes that need help, damnit.
nice going Pontiac, one big ass commercial.
- Kuz0
I can't drive my 4 kids to school, and do the weekly shop and then take my aged mother to hospital on a bike
sorry, what was i saying? yeah, material obsession and incessant consumption. Just feed the machine.
- DutchBoy0
yes i would like a simple clean car as well, could really use one.
but if whatever charity wouild give it to me i would declare humanity as completely lost.
if i really want a car i can work for it and start to save money, there's more urgent serious tourble in the world that deserve help.
this is just ridiculous. F* THAT!
- Kuz0
agree absolutely DutchBoy.Not anti-car as such, but anti the base materialiasm this publicity stunt was appealing to.
- DutchBoy0
word.
not anti-car either, but i think it's ethically not so-oo ok to start giving them away for free just like that. i think that.
and i love my bicycle!!!!
TAKE OUT!!
