G'Day folks I am a pom fresh off the plane in Melbourne looking to help any agencies on web design work. Can anyone tell me how the industry is at the moment down under? Many thanks in advance.

been here for three months and have only spent 2 days not working. Australian infront has loads of work.
I found Melbourne quieter than Sydney though

why Melbourne?
Where I am want people I think...
Are you here perminantly or on a Visa?
- citizen_h0
Initial research and planning suggested Melbourne was best bet. The last 5 months I've been travelling around asia. So now i want to stay around - i have a holiday work visa though.

Yeh you're doing exactly what I'm doing. Ispent 6 months in S.America and NZ, and im earning a bit of cash befor carrying on to Asia.
I arrived in Melbourne and found it a little quiet, not to mention cold. But I've been pretty lucky in Sydney and I will have been working constantly for 6 months come xmas. Something I didnt think would happen.
Between Australianinfront and Aquent and some specualtive emailing, you should be fine.

melbournes tuff. i spent 3 months there with no work. great city, great people, great nightlife but i just couldnt get a good job. But you have a good folio. best of luck.
reactive media were hiring recently. try them

mate that mulberry site is lush - nice one.
I've also been on the job hunt, but I'm a local. And it has been a bit tough. There were some opportunities around easter, but now it seems a little thin on the ground. I think its going to be as kezza (?) said - see aquent, cspapple.com, and particularly duxcc.com, - thats a start - then go to AusInFront Job postings, or just the studio directory and cold call / email

Many thanks guys - much appreciated as always. Last few days I've spent around Melbourne are great. Melbourne is a fantastic place. It has a mix of New York and London, but much much cleaner.
If any you guys are in the neighbourhood drinks are waiting.
Cheers.

Yeah, i found Melbourne pretty tuff too. Got down here Jan last year and did find a decent job till september. As Kazza said, INfront is probably one of your best bets. There are job sites like Seek & Mycareer, but i never had much luck with them.
But then again, my friend move here a few months after me and landed a job within two weeks...
Bastard :)

aye am doing an anim for seek right now.
not sure how the web design scene is- tho your folio is neat, so you should be able to find some work- and FIND some work may take a bit of work.
ps- if melbourne is too quite for you get to know some of us local folk- its great for night and also getting away to national parks n what not. luv it here.
