Hey Kappa,
I am working on a mac, using dvd studio pro. I'm still working on my first, the movie is called Bandit Queen.
What problems did you encounter? My problem is, i cannot seem to get it to work on all DVD players.

i find mastering a good DVD one of the hardest things to do. Can be a pain in the ass. DVD Studio Pro is nice, but still i hope it will all be a bit easier soon.
Especially compatibility issues are annoying, you really need to test a DVD on as many machines as possible.
You'd wonder, how do the big ass companies do this? Do they have a whole bunch of DVD players to test on?
Anyone who has a lot of experience can enlighten a n00b like me?

The Sonic Foundy app recently bought out by Sony sees to wrok OK. I'm yet to test the finsihed product on a Sony player though, which are probably the most temperamental of players (DVD).
The problem I had were more font sizing isssues, on smaller TV's. You have to kep the text quiet large to be legible. Allmsot make everything like a children book.

I've been using DVD Studio Pro since it came out, and the second version supercedes the first by leaps and bounds. I've done about 100 or so now, and am getting pretty good results that play in most machines that I've tested with including Sony's. I think a lot of the problems on different players is the media you use. Lately I am using USDM DVD-R's with high success, buying them from http://www.cdrom2go.com/
I think the hardest part is getting a good clean encode at a reasonable bitrate. In the past I have used Bitvice, but have recently been using Apple's Compressor and getting comparable results and shorter encode times.
I did some work a few years back with a company called Vidfilm who has since been bought by Technicolor I believe. They do a lot of Hollywood titles there, encoding with either a Spruce(now owned by Apple) system or the old standby Minerva systems which yield absolutely amazing results. And yes, there was an entire room full of consumer DVD players they tested on.

Nice work Mr Flaco...
Any titles I might know of?
Do you place easter eggs in your DVDs?
- mr_flaco0
Easter eggs depend on the client, hehe. As for titles, it's been mostly industrials, broadcast animation pitches, and my own installation work I'm afraid.
I was mostly working on Video On Demand technologies while I was in and out of Vidfilm. I was working with them specifically on encoding standards for the set -top box we were developing.

"DVD Studio Pro is nice, but still i hope it will all be a bit easier soon"
I found DVD Studio pro 3 pretty easy, and I have never used any soft for doing this before.
I ve heard from some collegues that the earlier versions where a pain..
If you haven't tried it, do it.
I took a 1/2 hour introduction class at an apple store for free, and that pretty much got me started.

Yeah been usiong Vegas 5 for a while. Awesome apps if your a beginer, but it does not allow for DVD authoring. Im sure they will combine the 2 soon.
Vegas 5 is easy to learn and quiet powerfull. Love it!

Apples Compressor is a blessing though!
won't use Bitvice anylonger..

i can't stress enough what mr. flaco already mentioned, the media is a very important part of how it plays in certain players. i've just dealt with this issue in the past week and just buying good dvd-r's makes a huge difference.
- DutchBoy0

- DutchBoy0
