Anyone else have this problem?;
I cannot get a button to work when nested in a movieclip - so god damn annoying, I just want
to have a couple of looping buttons that cycle through a movieclip, which will take you to different points in the movie - I linked up the button, named it and assigned it a task, very straightforward basic sh*t - On export I get the pointing finger icon, but the button will not go anywhere. Any answers?

I get that too. Anyone know why? Must be something really simple and obvious that I'm going to feel very stupid for not knowing.

thanks contra, at least I know I'm not alone -
You'd think something this friggin' basic would take 2 seconds to pull off - apparently not.

code?..you sure the paths are correct...?

It's when the script isn't applied directly to the button, it's on the main timeline or in an MC that holds all the AS. Paths are correct but the button does nothing.
Only time I've got this to work is when the AS and the (nested) button are both on the same frame of the main timeline.
If the AS is on frame 1 and the button is on frame 1 it's ok, but move the button down the timeline and it dies.

do you have a short timeline loop playing (2 frames, skipping back and forth) if you do, it can mess up button functions.
post the AS up so we can check it out

simply put, I have 5 buttons that each lead to a different frame on the _root timeline. I put them all in a MC, and I made it into a news-crawler type effect at the bottom of my movie. The 5 buttons endlessly loop by, and all I get is the pointing hand symbol, no trigger to the specified frame on rollover.
I've tried putting the AS on the button itself, in the MC main timeline, as well as the _root timeline

without seeing the actual code you're using, its hard to say whats wrong, it could be something very simple
