Does anyone know of a site / company that has stats of user resolution. It has to be THE reputable source on the web...(if there is one)
or it has to be very official, not "joe's killer web stats"ive found these 3 in PVN but im looking for the definitive web stats org.

I'm very disapointed as it appears there is in fact no such thing as Joe's Killer Web Stats. :*(

Its not that i dont trust those stats, its that the head of marketing needs something offical, or else im stuck designing for 640x480...

does your head of marketing live in the past by any chance?

...and this is the bit where I come in with the reminder that you should tell them that their customers are probably not 'average'.
They should research THEIR audience if they want to know about their audience.

I never develop for the least common denominator. I usually go for something in between the LCD and the average. Which would be 800x600 in my opinion.
What's the worst that could happen if someone at 640x480 viewed a page made for 800x600? They'd just have to scroll horizontally which isn't that big of a deal (and they deserve this for actualling using 640x480! =)

You have to think about the specific content you are offering as well... In our case, we have thousands of images at 1600x1200 size... You can view them on a 640x480 screen, but there's LOTS of scrolling...

anybody still browsing at 640x480 has bigger problems to worry about than if they can view your site correctly.

I still work at 8x6, even if only 30% of our users are still at that resolution, I am going to continue to use it for some time I would imagine. Leave no user behind that way.
