okay... i got an image that is really dark, in Grayscale format.
I need to layer this in a CMYK file... but when i convert, or copy and paste, PS changes the Grayscale values to like 90% of CMY and 5% K.
That won't do. It's too dark and that will show up strange. how can i paste this into a CMYK doc and have it change the image into percentages of K... which it really should do anyway...
wtf?

just keep it grayscale, it will be % of k.

Try making it a black channel and copyinh the channel into the new doc as a 2nd gray channel

that's the problem...
i can't because i need to layer another CMYK image over one part of it.
(it's more involved than that, involving transparency issues, and subsequent white boxes created by indesign.)
