Looks as though it's gaining momentum and will probably happen.

Biometric Passport Scheme?
Sounds a little Sci Fi for my tastes.
- ethios0
You know if it does go through it will be a compulsory fee of £85 quid for 10 years.
What the hell are these politicians thinking?!
- moth0
I hear it can protect against terrorism.. That must be some nasa-prototype plastic... I'll bet even Bond doesn't have one of these.
I'll feel so safe with that. I'll be deflecting suicide bombers left right and center!
Grand idea.

Looks like something Bush would try to do. Fuck em.
- moth0
Bush lets his people have guns instead...
- ethios0
Haha. These cards better have all the mod cons for the price I'll be paying for 'em.
- moth0
i'm not buying this.
nor should you.
join the riot, I'm sure they'll be one.
- gabriel20
yeah, I'm sure they'll be a riot just like after the US invaded iraq, or after bush was reelected, or....um....nevermind....
- Scottizzle0
Fuck, If there was ever a time to riot, it was when bush was re-elected...not to stop some stupid ID cards.
Why dont we just start rioting right now? Bush is just as bad as hitler.

I was so happy the nazi blunkett got fucked off, shame this silly idea didn't go with him..

there will be copied/fake identity cards like passports are created and sold which will probably create a new problem without reason.
gotta love politics.
- pixelbreaker0
it's just a way of
1) diverting voters attention from the real issue before the election next spring
2) a money spinner, because the highest corporate bidder will be able to data-mine for potential sales target
Hmm, it's so nice to know we're just a commodity for fat-cats to chew up and spit-out

I've go no issues with it, if you've got nothing to hide then where's the problem? Then again, I don't know much about it as I haven't been following it in the news. No doubt though it will end up costing millions, and they'll miss deadlines and make numerous mistakes. Typical British... :P

Then again, I don't know much about it

(Dec 21 04, 01:00)I don't an issue with it in so far as it doubles as a passport. It holds your address and details, an iris scan and finger prints. Ok. I can just about cope with that - but it's where and when you have to produce it that bothers me. It bothers me that you will get fined for moving house and not telling anyone. It bothers me that access to "specified public services" will be witheld until you produce it.
Bascially, once you loose this freedom, you don't get it back.

absolute waste of time and money.. another reason not to vote for those idjuts again.
- moth0
Nor the other lot. But that only leaves the Lib Dems... and a lot of other bollocks besides...
- Blofeldt0
My biggest worry is the company who'll probably run the scheme is a computer company called Capita. They fucked up the passprts a few years ago, they're systems crashed with holding millions of peoples benifits and a whole host of other fuck ups. The government are so in bed with all the big businesses who stand to make a lot of money out of ID cards i don't think they dare pull the plug.
- Blofeldt0
say yes to the Lib Dems

say yes to the Lib Dems

(Dec 21 04, 01:45)They ain't without their problems - but thank fuck a third party might actually stand a chance...
