i once saw a faces of death video, because a friend insisted (stupid teenager i was) and it was one of the most repulsive things i have seen in my lifetime..
not long after that the FoD videos became illegal here in the Netherlands, which is a good thing.

that bridge is scary enough without wanting to kill yourself.
Was there in September, my GF and I biked across the bridge to Sausalito. It was so windy up there, looking down at the water churning was intense.

also very hush hush but there are many... MANY more suicides at the luxor in las vegas.
it's an entirely open structure inside with about a 5 foot ledge of concrete keeping you from jumping.
a buddy who lives there said it happens all the time.
when i was gambling in that place i couldn't help but keep looking over my shoulder. i was in constant fear.

When the movie comes out you will be the first to go and see it, admit it

I think it was in the New Yorker a few years ago. A guy jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge.
In his apartment they found a note saying that he was going to walk to the bridge to jump. If anyone said "hello" to him during his walk, he wouldn't jump.

I had a fancination with jumping off that bridge for years.
For whatever reason, if I had to do it anywhere I'd do it there.

I know the difference between news media and the effort for aid, and film making and profit and fame. What I also know is that the media thrives on ad revenue. Crisis aid might not be the last thing on the media's mind, but I tell you what, it isn't the first. Yeah, everyone wants to make money and climb the financial ladder, but when it comes at the personal expense of others then it sucks for people who are compassionate. I might make remarks on here about "wanting to see people jump from the bridge", but I'm about as nice and compassionate a guy you'll ever come across (unless I'm drunk). I am truly just intrigued by the concept. No, not he comcept of watching people smack the water, but really the whole cycle of what drives people to suicide from the beginning to the end.
When I was younger I was reckless. I never drank or did drugs, but as a teen I thought I was invincible. Now, being older I am very concerned about self preservation.
All I'm saying is that the bridge commitee has an alternate agenda and that's preserving the image of the bridge. There's not reason for them to compare those films to snuff films. If they want to complain about people killing other people then they need to address the President in Chief.
And yes kOna, mad people out here in Vegas killing them selves at the hotels. Everytime I go up to the hallways in the luxor I get vertigo. If you were drunk, it would be a pretty simple death process if you were to stumble by your doorway too much...

an acquaintance of mine purred himself to sleep in his garage 4 days after xmas.
he'd bought his kids a year's-worth of bday presents for his wife to give them.
offing youself when you're alone is one thing...leaving little ones behind because you're too yellow to suck it up is unconscionable.

I see this documentary as something different from graphic news footage or anything along the lines of "faces of death" or "banned from tv".
If he intended to document suicide as a part of the human condition then I think its not such a terrible thing. Its creepy but only because suicide is creepy. The fact that he interviewed relatives etc. seems to validate his stance that its not exploitation. Who knows? The final film may not even show the actual suicides. Its too early to judge.

some NewsToday folk make me imagine old ladies knitting designer Che Guevara jumpers.

there was a rumour a while back that some of the FoD footage was fake. is this true?

I've seen quiet a few of the FoD's and I'm pretty sure that the later chapters have quite a few staged and fake incidences.
