is there anyway to force shut down an iPod?
it's just at the beginning of a track and won't go off hold even when i unlock it. and no butts are doing anything.
it's like the software is completely frozen but the drive is spinning.

try holding down play/pause and menu simultaneously for 5 secs

hmm, no luck.
fucking sucks, as it's not mine and i really would hate to buy an iPod for someone, when i don't have one...

hold down "menu" and "play/pause" until it resets.

I had the same problem with my mini once...didn't have much of a choice but to let the batteries run dead. worked just fine after that.

cool. i'll just hope it works after it's drained....

this happened to me on the train once. i had to just let it die, then recharge it when i got home.
works fine now.

same thing happened to me. Let it die and recharged it, works fine now. Scared the fork out of me.

you have to toggle the hold switch five times, THEN hold the select and menu button down for five seconds.

UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, A, B, SELECT, START.

actually, you only need to toggle the hold switch once. at least that's the case on my 3G
