"notice the url field at the left-bottom"
I meant real url bookmarking, not copying/pasting some text. Nice work, though.

shaft, that is exactly it.
recently for my job i've been doing so much product research and linking to it is a royal pain.
- anzelina0
also, even when copying that url and pasting it, you are brought to the front page once more.

huh? if you are using named anchors the current anchor will be chosen when you add to faviorites, and you can link, type to this address.
- anzelina0
yeah, but it brings me to the first page first, then when i enter i am taken to the linked area.
maybe it's something specific to that site, not all make you re-enter through the gate page?

(Feb 1 05, 12:13)Now how about making it dynamic, ie. link to a product or a picture ID that comes from a database? In other words, how to generate a link that will later pass any variables in a query to Flash? :)
- imakedesign0
hmm... not 100% sure what you mean. a rough idea would to have each product on a sperate frame each with a name anchors e.g www.mysite.com/producta#prodA
then use your normal php code on the actual link.

i know that in theory and in some cases flash supports deeplinking, however, it's hardly ever implemented.
and that's annoying.
i'm sure it'll be solved soon.

That's what I meant. You don't know the products or picture names/quantity while you're creating the site. Imagine it's a blog. Are you going to create a frame for each future entry?
- imakedesign0
ah right good point thats a fundemental flaw. unless you could dynamically set named anchors. they can be called upon via javascirpt not sure if that helps.
there have been examples that use php + frames which work well.

just use a query string in the path to flash movie. then have your flash movie parse the url and grab the query string params.
i.e.:
movie.swf?id=20&something=40Then have your flash movie load the appropriate content based on the values passed from the query string.

That's what I am doing. The problem is how to put the query into address bar and enable history (back/forward) buttons.
It takes a slightly different approach for each browser.

http://www.noscope.com/journal/2…
might be of use.
- fugged0
ah. gotcha...
dunno how to do that for all browsers without reloading the page... and that would suck.

Yes, the background music must go uninterrupted ;)

------------agreed, this solution still relies on the nerd factor. When creating really accessible content you won't need to explain the menu first, and neither hide the url in a small corner hardly anyone notices, esp. not at such font size and low contrast.
