I just bought a house in Royal Oak, MI. I've been living out in Philly for the last 3 years. I'm a Detroiter (born & bred) and know the area quite well.
I'll be moving back in March. So if you want to hang out, let me know. I own a VW GTI (it's a 1995, but I l can't seem to part with it).
I will be working from home and 2 days a week in Toldeo. I looked at those lofts in Toledo last time I was out and they looked pretty sweet. Toledo is really coming around. It used to be as bad as Flint. Toledo also has an underrated art museum.
Oh yeah, before you move to Ann Arbor, buy yourself the Sufjan Stevens' record, Greetings from Michigan & His Name is Alive's Mouth by Mouth. Both beautiful record for the Michigander.

yeah, i'm from there originally as well, so ready to move back home.
i have Greetings from Michigan..it's a beautiful album. Vitos Ordination is my fave on there....

The Mudhens are what did it for me. Beautiful stadium, cheap as hell (5 bucks a game?) and pretty good baseball (by Detroit standards).
My girlfriend also lives in Monroe. That helps. haha
Hey STB: what are you favorite places to eat in Royal Oak? I'm heading there tomorrow...and always find myself eating at Noodles & Co...time to move on! Any suggestions?

i live a block away from the mudhens stadium. free fireworks on home games!

i experienced from racial tension in ann arbor.
it is a college town... which makes it sort of better than other michigan cities... but it also means some trash from the sticks end up there for school.

I live in Ferndale and work in Ann Arbor. There aren't a lot of jobs for designers in A2. All the Agencies are in Troy, Birmingham and Detroit. In fact, once this gig is over I'll be looking for something out there.
Here's some of Ann Arbor Studios/agencies

Ann Arbor is pretty nice. Toledo is ok if you don't mind driving to Ann Arbor/Detroit to find better things to do. I used to go to school at BGSU, about 20 minutes south of Toledo, and would drive to Ann Arbor a lot to hang out. Not much going on in the area unless there is a Stylex show at Howard's ;)

I used to live and work in Ann Arbor. It's nice there, especially in the summer.

a block away from the stadium? That's awesome. If I get one of those lofts..I'll be just as close.
We'll have to fight for the freelance work. It'll be fun.

Big Idea Magazine
www.bigideaweb.com/ is also a good resource for Michigan studios.
