I can tell my wife is gonna love this part of our trip
hahahaha

might want to let her have a minor accident in Zion...just something small where she'll have to sit in the hotel room.
OR! You could replace her suntan lotion with regular lotion and go on a nice big sunny day hike...she'll be certain to not want to go out when she gets to Vegas..
Just ideas..

Has anyone been through Death Valley or Yosemite before?
- reshetniak0
Man, I've got like six friends who are planning a trip through Vegas to Cali in April. If you don't go through Death Valley you really haven't done the trip right.

yosemite, don't miss it. F*cking unreal. If you can, try to come up from the south east through mammoth lakes/bishop and you will enter the park in Tuolumne Meadows then go down into the valley. There will be lots of people there in summer but it's still worth it
Death valley is cool but in mid summer not so cool, quite hot in fact.

yeah we were planning on coming out of death valley on 190 and then up to yosemite on 395
cheers
- kld0
that will be cool, there some great hiking/backpacking off of 395 and free natural hot springs all around there as well.

We came back from colo. last year during a heatwave and our a/c was down. WORST ROAD TRIP EVER! bumper to bumper traffic through sacramento was the worst I've felt in a long time. Bring your skate as there are lots of new parks in cali.
- jevad0
colo to cali?
which route did you take and how long was it?
- kld0
That time we went I-70 to 50 and its about 24 hours driving. I-80 through wyoming takes about 18 hours.
- jevad0
ah ok - hightailing it!
We're going south colo - utah - grand canyon - nevada - cali

The ghost towns in Death Valley are super cool, be sure to take your time.
Once in SF, visit Muir Woods on the other side of the Golden Gate. Also get out to the lighthouse on Point Bonita - great views of the city. Alcatraz is fine too, but if you have a choice, you should go to Angel Island for a day hike.
- kld0
That's just driving time, we usually take several days and check some sites. Winter time= three days for sure.
- jevad0
Thanks arthur! I googled Angel island and that looks lovely!
- arthur0
It's really beautiful and has tons of history - Chinese internment camps, civil war cannons, etc. Not to mention the views. You can even kayak there from kayak rental places in Sausalito or Tiburon and stay the day.
- arthur0
Oops, I meant Japanese internment camps.

rent a sail boat and sleep overnight on the lee side of angel island. that's living large.
some pics from last weekend in Pt reyes(north of sf near muir woods)
