aint gonna get a good 3 chip camera w/ a wide angle for a grand my friend. you could get that cheap panasonic 3 chip, but no wide angle. or a used vx-1000 and maaaaaaybe get a crappy wide angle adaptor with it.

I recently purchased a Panasonic AG-DVX100A to replace my old Canon XL1. I love it.
It was recommend to me by all the cameramen at my work. Its a 3CCD camera but records at 24P (like film) rather than dropframe like most DV cams. The 3:2 pulldown is handled in camera during conversion, and produces really amazing shots compared to any of the other high-end DV cams I have worked with.

Oh crap, I kinda glanced over your price requirements.... sorry.
I suppose in your price range I would take a look at the Canon GL2, Sony VX-2000, or the Panasonic PV-GS400.

Also, now that I think about it, you could probably find a used Canon XL1 for around a grand. That would offer quite a bit more in terms of controlability and audio input options....
shame, I just sold mine.

helloperson, you sir are a gent. Thansk for all those tips. I just read a review of the panasonic you recomended, THEN looked at the price, buy then it was too late, i was already in love.
But that would bust my bank. Thanks for the budget tips.

anyone know what the canon xl2 is like?

dunno about a grand for a 3 chipper, but GL1/GL2 have served me very well. i almost prefer the GL1 in terms of ergonomics, but the GL2 has better gain, better audio monitoring, and the same warm canon feel and durability.
