I'm doing some research about film genres and north america.
I know that the Western would be the United States' national genre.
What would be the Canadian one?

I'm pretty sure the United States national unity genre would be the Western. I've talked to various film makers and have done research.
Unfortunately, there isn't enough info on Canadian stuff.

before this turns into another boy wizard thread. If you know what I mean.

I think, Mimio, that what Jaline means to say is that the Western is peculiar to the American film industry, at least historically. Americans invented the Western, and it still defines much of American film history. Other international filmmakers just adapted it (Sergio Leone, some Aussie filmmakers, etc).
Jaline, I would have to disagree with you about the Western being some kind of American "national" genre. There is no such thing.

I don't think you can really define a genre for a country. I know what you are saying about the Western, as that supposedly reflects the history of the US..but i dont think many other countries can be applied to this (Maybe only Asia with Martial Arts).
Canada hasn't exactly got a massive film industry, so it would be hard to come to any conclusions.
What exactly is the title of the paper?
- paraselene0
that's silly.
the genre of "western" no more epitomises american cinema than the nouvelle vague defines the french or oberhausen work represents the german.
but i guess if that's what your teacher said...
