Did all of you major in graphic design in college, or just major in something simliar? I go to Arizona State where they have two programs, the more artsy graphic design program, and the more techy graphic info. technology. Currently, I am a graphic info. tech. major, although I have found I lack maybe some artistic skill. How can I improve?

What is 'major'?

I went to Full Sail real world education www.fullsail.com
Im not sure if any one has heard of it, maybe so. I was in the digital media associate program.
I thought it was cool, nice experience is a common reaction to it.
I do have alot to say about it if anyone wants to know more.
anyone else from there...
i basically picked up design from design books and internet!

Fullsail is pretty popular, dude. They market a lot.
I'm going to major in Marketing/Advertising at IU Kelley School of business. Yeah, I'll be one of "them".

wait...whats them, i kinda wanna be one of them. Im definetly leaning more strategy side rather then just being a graphic designer. Its a natural talent, but then again does evreyone think they have that strategy talent?
Ya, the good people in the class made it, we got our careers!
School does accomidate slackers, but thats because you dont have to have a portfolio to get in the school!

mikhaii, FullSail offers 2 sides, right? A design side and a business side. I'll basically be focusing on just the business side while at Uni. Design, I'll have to keep teaching myself.

Brooke went to ASU for a little while. She left because she didnt like it and went to Collins. Now she is a design superstar.
My point? ask brooke.

Ya fullsail is just mainly software and industry training there is one course on design...which is pretty cool, but basic, since im a designer (creative) alot of people didnt consider them selves as creatives....
i would say so much of the people hated that little design course.. i wish it was better
Ya , so basicallly you learn software techniques and industry information.
Its what you make of it, i made the most!
I would like to take course of some sort...no idea what

I went to SDSU and we had a design-focused program. it wasnt great, but of the people I know that went to schools that were more tech-focused, most of them really just don't get the whole design side of it.
My advice would be to do the design-side of it. If you like it, you'll spend a lot of time working on your stuff and will learn all of the techy stuff on your own.
Very few people are great designers without schooling at design. Look at all the good ones, and try and find one that has a technology background. All it is is a tool for your design.
Damn, Im starting to sound like my old professors.

you get better by not going to a shitty state school.
- fate_redux0
Hope that wasn't directed at me, Fresno. Kelley School of Business is ranked 3rd in the country.
- fresnobob0
no, it wans't.
graphic design and art in general wise, any art school is going to be wayyy better than any state school.
and non of those tech school places either.
- tehgee0
i shouldnt have listened to my mom and gone to study sociology
- fate_redux0
taragee, why? I think that's pretty damn interesting. And you're doing well enough without totally focusing on artsy fartsy stuff :p

My school teaches very little of the software side of deisgn. Our program is straight outta Basel. I couldn't be happier with it. I'm not paying to go to school to learn how to use Photoshop.

i graduated from northeastern university with a degree in 'media arts and design' which was a hybrid of graphic design/animation/information architecture.
and it has gotten me nowhere...

unfortunetly thats what i ended up doing... i never knew , hahah but i turned out alrightous!
