I would have to go with Dell as far as quality, service, and bang for the buck when it comes to laptops. but hell, put in another $200 and u can get even better stuff like a toshiba and maybe an HP. i actually work for a bang for your buck laptop company and you are not going to bet finding a 5hr battery life unless u strap on an additional battery pack.

Check out Thinkpads, okay most people think they are ugly ...

--------------------I don't think they're ugly at all - I like the way they look .. they're simple in a brutish sort of way .. they don't make lame attempts at being "pretty" (lame colours, garnishes, shiny embellishments, etc.). The Helvetica (or Akzidenz Grotesk) of laptops ;D

For a wintel laptop you can't go wrong with IBM.
Toshiba's are also quite solid (from my experience).

you could always get a car adapter for those long road trips where you absolutely must be on your laptop and not sleeping/looking out the window.
say no to gateway. always have had problems with those.
IBM, toshiba, dell, or sony are your best if you want pc.
cant beat a mac though ;)
