Check out DesignIntelligence too, http://www.di.net -- they publish the annual architecture school rankings.

it might just be because it is local but I grew up hearing that North Carolina State University has a really good architecture program.
plus NC is a great state to live in.

I'm not interested in studying architecture. My ex is studying arch at the University of Michigan, and that was sort of her rationale for going there. She makes a good point, people who design tensile structures etc. pretty much have to be engineers anyways. Some school's curriculums are already reflecting that.

mimio, i am not sure if you wanna do both... it's the problem with this whole design industry where everyone is becoming a jack of all trades.
it'll be good to focus on one area where you feel really strong about. then also know the working knowledge of others. there are many super engineers like cecil balmond who can come up with amazing engineering solutions to your design needs.

umr in rolla is an engineering/architecture program.

she's finishing up secondary school and looking for a college to attend. not happy with the school system in st. maarten where she lives, and doesn't know much about architecture except that it fascinates her
so basically i'm just helping her gather info that will help her out

Consider shoping for schools that do both engineering and architecture really well, because the two fields are merging more. Kind of like graphic design and programming are merging more.

SoCal Institute of Architecture
http://www.sciarc.edu/I've been considering going there. I'm such a perfectionist that I should truly be an architect.

I went to Carnegie Mellon. All of my friends in Architecture either transfered or switched majors.
So, either they're idiots, or this is a difficult school.*
* They're idiots.

Some other schools:
Columbia
Coopers Union
Sci-Arc
Harvard GSD
UPenn
IIT Chicago
Parsons
Cranbrook
Princeton
Yale.. but these are obviously so-called top schools, meaning $$$$$ as well as lots of competition ..

Archinect is probably the best portal out there:
