'area' by phaidon is good. as is most of the publications of die gestalten ('type one' and 'wonderland' are my two most recent purchases, but also the neasden control centre book is great). the infiltrate: ny design scene book thats big and lime green is great, too. if you want more theory based books, design literacy (or just about anything by steven heller) is worth the read.
and if you want to support fellow nt-ers... i'm self publishing a book right now, but you won't find it at amazon.

Although I am not a big fan of Los/Dos Logos, nice purchases.
I absolutely love the Typography books by Willi Kunz, not only are they well written, informative and clear, they are so well designed.
David Jury's about face has also been another favourite for me, not that is anything THAT extraordinary, I think it was really to the point in teaching some of the basics, at least for me, before I even took typography and this allowed me to get into more intermediate level stuff like in Bringhursts book.
So I guess I should list Bringhursts Elements of Typographic style, but I think that it is a given for most.
Josef Muller-Brockmanns books are always great too, well illustrated, well designed, and well written. Both his Grid Systems book and The Graphic Designer and his Problems are a couple of my favourites.
Full booklist here (would like to add reviews eventually):
